In 2009 the Dutch photographer Reinier Gerritsen made his well-known series ‘Wall Street Stop’, documenting people in the New York subway during the height of the financial crisis. This resulted in a book with the same title, published in 2010 by Hatje Cantz on the occasion of his exhibition in the ‘Nederlands Fotomuseum’ (Dutch Museum of Photography) in Rotterdam. This was followed in 2011 with the first part of a new series: ‘Shanghai Flowers’.

In 2012, Reinier started his new series: ‘The Last Book’. He read in an article that less and less people are reading an ‘old fashioned’ book in the subway. More people are using their e-reader or phone. According to those statistics the last paper book will be read in 2015 …
