Krukhaug, Espen

Espen Krukhaug was born in 1978, in a small town just outside of Oslo, Norway. Though photography started out as a hobby, it led to the release of his first book ‘Skinhead’ in 2004. He wanted to pursue his interest and moved to London to study photography at Camberwell College of Art. He graduated in 2008 and went on to publish his second book ‘Before Dawn’. This book features an introduction by Philip Chevron, from the band The Pogues. And in collaboration, the band Orangedark composed music inspired by the photos.

In 2011 he published his third book ‘Bifröst’. A series of images portraying insomnia, something the artist has dealt with first hand. He experienced this project as therapeutic. Instead of laying in bed and trying to get some sleep, he went for walks in a delirious state of mind. Not really sure if he was dreaming or not. Not really sure the things he saw were real.

Welcome in the lonesome, but fascinating world of Urban Exploration. With urban exploring, the explorers are creating an exposure of the lost glory and industrial decline. Thus documenting normally unwanted and forbidden parts of our society.

Dutch photographer Jan Stel started taking pictures in his teenage years, visually exploring lifes moments. The old Nikon camera and lens gear from his dad made him even more interested. After the art academy he has done a follow up course in photography. With his skills in Photoshop, Motion and his profession at Souverein it has made him a specialist in creative imagery.

The fascination for derelict structures and corroded colors made him search for unique abandoned and desolate places. Attracted by the beauty of these abandonments, he started capturing the long forgotten history of that past. Trespassing of these abandonments is forbidden and quite dangerous. But in common, gates are wide open and doors are unlocked. Now he's showing the beauty of what most people at first sight experience as ugly and lost. In respect Stel never forces his way in and doesn't take any souvenirs. By doing so, the conditions where left as they were when he entered the scene.

Terry O’Neill (born in 1938), whose coveted work hangs in national galleries and private collections worldwide, has produced covers for Time, Newsweek, Stern, Paris Match, The Sunday Times Magazine, Vanity Fair and many others over the course of his six-decade career. Since he first picked up a camera in 1958, he has photographed presidents, prime ministers, rock stars, Oscar winners and the British Royal Family. His work has delivered iconic movie posters, album covers and fashion plates for the world’s top designers.

Mr. O’Neill has chronicled the lives of emerging rock stars and icons of the 60s including David Bowie, Elton John, The Who, Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry and many others. He photographed The Beatles and The Rolling Stones when they were struggling young bands and worked closely with Frank Sinatra for over 30 years, being granted access to the legend back stage and in private.

Former husband to legendary actress Faye Dunaway, his photograph of her in Beverley Hills, the morning after she won her Best Actress Oscar for Network, has been nominated as the most iconic Hollywood shot of all time. His photographs of Brigitte Bardot, Jean Shrimpton and Audrey Hepburn capture the charisma of these superstars at the peak of their careers.

Vicent Zedelius is born in Bonn, Germany in 1977. From 1997 - 2001 he studied at the Photo Academy in Amsterdam and from 2002 - 2005 at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. His work could be seen in many group exhibitions and during a solo exhibition in FOAM in 2006. His work is published internationally and is part of several museum, corporate and private collections.

Hanne van der Woude studied at ArteZ Academy of Arts in Arnhem from 1999 - 2003 and after that at the School of Photography in Apeldoorn until 2007. She already exhibited during her studies, which culminated in a solo exhibition in the Fotomuseum The Hague with her series 'MC1R - Natural Red Hair'. Her book, with the same name, was published by d'jonge Hond in May 2008 and immediately needed a second edition.

Inspired to document the natural phenomenon of red hair after reading of its decline in the larger population, van der Woude's series Natural redheads juxtaposes the vibrancy of her subjects' glorious manes with the early lushness of the Dutch landscape.

Hans Withoos (1962) is an experienced fashion and advertising photographer, based in Rotterdam. For commissioned work he also collaborates with Jolanda Cats. Personal ‘fine art’ work of Hans Withoos is characterized by colourful images full of fantasy, with eccentric aesthetics. In an intriguing manner he uses image manipulation. His work was exhibited in galleries and at art fairs in The Netherlands and the United States. And it is internationally included in institutional and private art collections.

Peter van de Wijngaart, born in Breda in 1971, lives and works since 1995 in Amsterdam. In his work he is always on the lookout for remnants of human interaction.

Peter van de Wijngaart: ‘The modern city seems to have lost its authenticity. Only very few places are left that have just emerged, or are made by the people themselves. The spaces that people share have been constructed, not by themselves, but by government. The city needs to be clean and neat. Public space is more and more becoming a facade for outsiders, than a meeting ground for the people actually living there.‘

The book 'New York Minute' has been published by publisher d'jonge Hond in November 2009.

Dan Wallin is a Swedish photographer, living and working in Göteborg and Grebbestad. For his free work he is fascinated by polaroids and old fashioned techniques. He buys old packages of polaroid films from all over the world, uses them and only then he can see what the result is. The coloring and stripes are a result of the way the films were handled in past. Then he makes a high res scan so the polaroids can be reproduced in a small edition.

Eric Watson (1955 - 2012) was an English photographer. Watson moved to London in 1974 to study fine art at Hornsey Art College, where his contemporaries included Adam Ant and became an assistant to the photographer Red Saunders in 1980 and soon branched out as a photographer in his own right, primarily in the pop music business. From 1981 to 1985 he was one of the main photographers for "Smash Hits" magazine where his friend Neil Tennant was assistant editor.

When Tennant formed the Pet Shop Boys with Chris Lowe, Watson took the first photographs of them and was their main photographer and video director from 1984 to 1991. Watson was much in demand as a pop photographer throughout the 1980s, his images of Spandau Ballet and Frankie Goes to Hollywood being particularly memorable.

The first video he directed was "Opportunities (Lets make lots of money)" for Pet Shop Boys in 1985, his co-director being Andy Morahan. He subsequently directed a series of Pet Shop Boys videos, including "Suburbia", "What have I done to deserve this?", "Domino dancing" and "DJ Culture". He also directed videos for many other pop artists including Holly Johnson and Yaz before concentrating on TV commercials.

Dutch photographer Marie Cécile Thijs (December 27, 1964, Heerlen, The Netherlands) specializes in portraiture. In her photographs she strives for intensity and illusion. She mingles contemporary style with classical aesthetics. Marie Cécile Thijs initially had a career as a lawyer, but more than fifteen years ago she rediscovered her earlier love for the camera, and decided to become a photographer. Since then, she has achieved recognition for her photoseries 'Human Angels', 'White Collar' and 'Legal Practitioners'. She is also known for her portraits of many politicians, artists and writers.

Her photography is regularly published and acquired by art collectors and corporations, and she exhibits frequently in Amsterdam and throughout Europe. In the Netherlands, her work is represented by Eduard Planting, and she is alligned with photo agency Hollandse Hoogte. In conjunction with her life as a photographer, she is a teacher at the Photo Academy (Fotoacademie).

Julia Solis is a writer and photographer who investigates ruined urban spaces. She is the founder of two arts organizations: Dark Passage and Ars Subterranea, (both of which are dedicated to exploring and exposing New York's ruins and underground spaces). She has written a book entitled New York Underground and received fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts. She is the executive producer of the film American Ruins. Julia is also an officer of the Madagascar Institute and is a board member of Place in History.

In April 2012 her book 'Stages of Decay' will be published. Stages of Decay is a collection of photographs of abandoned and deteriorating performance spaces. At one point, all of these spaces were places of entertainment and pleasure, hosting everything from Vaudeville musicals to rock 'n' roll concerts. The book focuses on the actual stages as they become disfigured by neglect, as the decay advances from mold to collapsing roofs. Stages of Decay is a glimpse at what happens after the final curtain has dropped.

Jock Sturges (born 1947) is an American photographer, best known for his images of nude adolescents and their families, primarily taken at communes in Northern California and at the Atlantic-coast naturist resort at Montalivet, France. His work has been the subject of controversy. Much of his work features Californian Misty Dawn, whom he shot from when she was a young child until in her twenties. In 1990, his San Francisco studio was raided by FBI officers and his equipment seized. A Grand Jury subsequently declined to bring an indictment against him.

Sturges graduated with a BFA in Perceptual Psychology and Photography from Marlboro College and received an MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. He primarily works with a large 8x10-inch-format view camera. (Source: Wikipedia)

Tristan Siegmann was born in Paris in 1960. After years of dreaming at Lycee Racine in Paris, he escapes his studies to devote himself to the world of photography. He began at FNAC, there he made his first photographs for the new version of the Journal of FNAC, Contact. He then moved to New Caledonia. It is here that began his career as a reporter. The Caledonian crisis gives the material and the possibility of covering the news as a correspondent for Gamma agency. One early morning, he took the classic pictures of the Greenpeace ship sunk in Auckland harbor. They have toured the world and symbolize the Rainbow Warrior ...

At the end of 1986 he began a series of trips to Mali, also including his latest issue on NGOs in the Dogon country, where he starts to work for Kipa agency before returning to Paris and - later on - Berlin.

Born in Vietnam, René-Jacques moved to Paris and began working as a photographer in 1924. There he photographed the social problems of the 1930s, later working for architects and film studios. After WWII he primarily photographed rural subject matter, including his well known series of the Renault car factory in Paris, France.

Christopher Regis-Gludd (London 1964) visited Amsterdam for the first time in 1993. Bewitched by the vitality of the city he threw himself, no holds barred, into the nightlife or 'night clubbing' as he called it. Come nightfall, armed with a reasonably heavy, somewhat awkward Leica R4, he would slip into the nocturnal world. Born in the Bordeaux region, Gérard Rancinan started his career at the Sygma press agency of which he became one of the leading lights. During his time with the agency he travelled the globe, bearing first hand witness to events of historical importance. Covering natural catastrophes, civil and ethnic wars, and urban riots, he came face to face with the complexity of the human condition and the random events by which it is fashioned. His thirst for freedom and an imperious need for self-expression rapidly convinced him to go freelance. Erwin Olaf (Erwin Olaf Springveld) is born in 1959 in Hilversum, The Netherlands. He studied journalism at the School of Journalism in Utrecht. His early work has been inspired by Hans van Manen en Robert Mapplethorpe.

Olaf is most famous for his commercial and personal work. He has been commissioned to photograph advertising campaigns for large international companies such as Levi's, Microsoft, Diesel and Louis Vuitton. Some of his most famous photographic series include "Grief", "Rain", "Hope" and "Royal Blood". Never one to shy away from controversy, Olaf's work is often daring and provocative. Humorously however, one of his early photographs was once expelled from a show on the basis of not containing nudity.

His work has received many awards, including the prestigious Johannes Vermeer Award (a Dutch State price) in 2011. His work has been exhibited all around the world.
